Sunshine Blogger Award

I am excited to announce that I am nominated for the Sunshine Blogger Award! Ed & Jenn from Coleman Concierge nominated me. They are awesome people and I’m sure you’ll find them as interesting as I do. With the nomination, they have asked me several questions about myself and my blog. I loved the questions they asked and I hope you do too!

How did you get into blogging?

Several years ago I was talking to my dad about miles & points. I told him all about the new credit cards I recently applied for and bloggers that tell people about them. He said I know so much about it that I should start blogging about it. If only I knew then what I know now, but I wouldn’t say no if I went back in time

What is your favorite post you’ve written?

Picking my favorite blog post is like picking your favorite child, although I don’t have any children. The posts about different places are places I’ve visited. Each one brings back the memories I have when I was there. My top 3 posts are about food in Montreal, the Guinness Storehouse, and the Jack Daniel’s Distillery. The post about how to find great travel deals is also among my favorites because it exemplifies why I love traveling and blogging.

What is your favorite food you have eaten in a foreign country?

Food is a somewhat common theme among some of my posts. Despite my physical stature (or lack thereof), I love to eat. Not only do I try to visit places that have good food, I plan what I do/see around where there is good food. I’ve loved the smoked meat in Montreal, the Guinness stew in Dublin, the falafel in Israel, and the jamon iberico in Spain.

Where is your favorite place you’ve ever been?

Do I really have to pick a favorite? I have honestly loved every place I’ve visited for different reasons. Hawaii is awesome because it was so relaxing. Nova Scotia was great because of it’s history. Ireland was awe-inspiring because it was so naturally beautiful. I also loved Israel because it was so spiritual. I’ll stop there because I can go on forever.

Where did you go on your first trip and how old were you?

I know that I went to New Jersey to visit family multiple times before I can remember anything. The first trip I remember was going to Mexico when I was about 7 or 8 years old and getting stuck there because a hurricane wreaked havoc.

What would you do if you didn’t blog?

I would enjoy doing what I love doing – traveling using miles & points. Aside from that, I’d probably use my free time to play more tennis and golf.

What is the most adventurous thing you have ever done?

The most adventurous thing I’ve done isn’t skydiving or bungee jumping. The adventurous things I have done are fairly unique, like walking across a rope bridge over a rough North Irish Sea. My favorite thing I’ve done that was adventurous is flying a plane. I took a flight lesson in a single-engine Cessna several years ago and it exceeded my expectations. Flight is one of the best human innovations.

What are your favorite and least favorite things about blogging?

My favorite thing about blogging is interacting with my readers and networking with other bloggers. The least favorite thing is the amount of time it takes to do it. It’s not a complaint, but it’s much more of a job than I expected when I started.

What makes you different from any other blogger?

Most other travel bloggers focus either on travel (and destinations) or miles & points. I try to bridge the gap of those two niches by writing about how I’ve used miles & points to travel and see amazing places.

What is your favorite book or travel movie?

One of my favorite movies is Catch Me if You Can. The story is fun and travel related. The performances by Leonardo DiCaprio, Christopher Walken and Tom Hanks were great. Also the film score, by John Williams, is catchy (no pun intended) and is reminiscent of his earlier works.
